R is for ...#atozchallenge

A to Z Challenge 2016

R is for ... Round Robin

Which is something I haven't done for a super long time
And something I really love participating in?

My Lizzie Kate Round Robin
Have you ever done a Round Robin?  Or are you sitting there scratching your head wondering what on earth I am whittering on about?  hehe!!

This was my fabric after I had completed my 'square' on my own Round Robin (The one I would get back to keep)

My RR after my square was
stitched on it

Let me explain ...  A Round Robin is something that goes around a group and each person adds their 'personal touch to it'

A Round Robin can be anything ... so long as it goes 'around' ... In this instance my sort of Round Robin would be a stitching Round Robin (or RR for short)

So, there is a group of stitchers ...

Heather
Katie
Cara
Abby

Each stitcher starts there own Round Robin on their own piece of fabric, each choosing a theme or maybe no theme and have what is known as a surprise ...

You can tack on your boxes where you want people to stitch or you can leave the fabric blank and let the stitchers decide where to stitch.  You can also include charts, so you then get the theme you want ... or you can leave it open to choice!

My Lizzie Kate on I stitched on boxes and included the charts ... after all people do not want to spend money buying charts!  Each stitcher will use their own threads as there is no point sending threads because most will have a vast amount of threads anyway, plus it just adds to the weight and cost of the parcel!

Extra postage weight is an unnecessary expense really ... if you wish metallic threads etc to be used then they should be enclosed or you stitch that on when it comes back!!  Things can get complicated ... which is why I prefer the quick, smaller RR's such a motifs.  That way people don't get bored with massive designs!

Once all have stitched their piece they post (on an agreed date) to the person next on the list:-

Heather would post to Katie,
Katie would post to Cara,
Cara would post to Abby
Abby posts to Heather.

We all then stitch on the other persons fabric and post on again ... so on and so on until you end up with your own one back!  Simple and fun!!

There are other versions where each stitches something for a partner and you just swap stitching! This works well!  I joined in a Round Robin like this on another blog (Butterfly Wings) a while ago!  that was the last RR I did!!

If you click on my Round Robins link you will see examples of just some of the RR's I've taken part in and also sent to my partners!!

I just love Round Robins, yes things do go wrong, like stitching goes missing in the post or someone decides to keep everything they get!!  Both are just heartbreaking, but if you do Round Robbins with people that you 'know', people that are reliable then all goes brilliantly!

I hope you enjoyed this post and I have not given you a headache!!

Bye for now
Hugs
Heather

Oh Wow ... such delights!

Hello there everyone,

How are you all doing?  I hope everyone is well :)

Laura and I are such busy 'bunnies' so far this week and the week hasn't finished yet!!  lol

On Monday we went to the school for a fitting of the new PE kit and School jumpers as the school got a new supplier as the current one is a little on the mean side with the cotton to hold the garments together lol So at 2pm we took Cara and Katie for their fittings, then waited for the boys to come out of school at 3pm to do the same all over again for them haha!! Took us the best part of 2 hours but all PE kits and jumpers ordered and paid for so that's the big bulk of the uniform for September sorted already :) I've already got the new school coats for Cara and Katie ... yay to go me!!  Organised for once!!  Last year I saw lovely coats for them and by the time I went to get them they were all sold out ... lesson learnt!!

Then Monday evening we went to a school meeting regarding Cara starting full time school in September and find out who her new teacher is!!  All great stuff :)

Tuesday we attended sports day for Mark which was great!  mark did super well!!
Providing the weather is good tomorrow we will be at sports day for Ryan and Conor :)

Today we had a lazy day .... Laura is only 2 weeks away from her due date so I had to get her to slow down and take it easy!!  She has been charging about and helping with the kiddies and all the 'end of school' stuff that goes on in June!  Laura is an absolute star and its nice to have her company.  The school think the world of her too :)

I have been asked to stitch items for 3 of the classrooms :)  That's me sorted with summer stitching then lol

This Friday Cara goes to visit her new classroom and see her new teacher so that's another morning out of the house lol  By the time we have done all our morning activities its then time to pick Cara then Katie up and then the boys, so needless to say I haven't really had time to get my teeth stuck into my stitching but I have managed a few little things

A Few Flowers

A while ago I started off a Round Robin with a few close friends who I have known for years.  I got my RR back today and I am delighted :) Totally made up :) :) :)  I just need to take out the tacking and do a nice boarder around each design then I can skip to the framers :)

My Lizzie Kate Round Robin

Lovely lovely and lovely things going on this week ....

Once things settle down and we get back to the normal day-to-day activities I can get back to stitching my head off lol  PLUS getting ready for my Grandbaby to pop out and say hello!!  I can't wait :) :) :)

So please excuse my quietness but i promise I will be back asap to make twice as much noise to make up for it lol

Happy stitching and crafting!!

Lots of love
Me!

A Finish or two and a birthday girl

Hello all

Well over the last week or so I have been busy fighting off a cold and it is starting to go around a few of us now!!  Today Conor was off school today as he isn't too well.  He has had a high temp again today so he will be off school tomorrow too :(

Katie had her 6th Birthday last week and she had  blast!!  She loved all her presents and cards off her lovely family and friends :-)  What a great day she had!!

The grand old age of 6 years old

A few days ago Cara had to take an object into Pre-School for the colour table and this month the colour is Red.  So I gave Cara something red to take in and her Pre-School Teacher seemed quite disappointed that I hadn't stitched the word red in red thread like I did for a few other colours when Katie was there 2 years ago!  I was amazed she had remembered so that night I stitched for a very long time ... well an hour lol ... and produced

Red for the Colour Table

I have finished my stitch on Jan's Round Robin

Jan's RR

I am in the process of another RR which has a Halloween theme and I hope to have that finished by the weekend.

I have also complete and posted off my Halloween Exchange but I cannot show a photo just yet!!

The children are away at the weekend so I am getting my HAED out and stitching on that.  I started Fireside Fairy Tales many many years ago and the fabric is quite grubby now and some of the stitching is all lumpy bumpy so I am starting again but I am doing the mini version of the chart.  This way I might actually get somewhere with it lol :)

Tomorrow is Parent-Teacher meeting for Katie.  I know all will be well as Katie is getting on really well in year 2.

I hope to have another finish to show you by Friday and then HAED all weekend long :-)  I cannot wait!!!

Have a fun time

Love me

Fairy stitched on Stephs RR

Last week saw a few of us with colds and coughs but with luck we shall recover and be full of mischief again lol

I have a few more RR's to stitch and finish off an exchange then I will be back to my own stuff and I think I have to finish James' Dictionary of Technology before anything else haha :)

Then it will be a toss up between Summer fairy and one of my HAEDS's .... decisions decisions decisions ....

On a less difficult matter than stitching my Open University Courses will start in a few days lol!!  Now they will be so much easier than trying to decide what to stitch lol!!!

Keep well and safe all

Stitching and Life!

Good afternoon all,

It has been a short while since I updated.  I have been busy running from home and school and a Parents Council meeting that there has not been much time for stitching but as the time increases upto full time hours for Cara in Nursery I will have a good few hours of a morning for ME! lol

So far this week I spend about 2 evenings doing my part on Steph's Joan Elliott Fairy RR and a little bit on James' surprise Dictionary of Technology.  I really need to get a move on with both of them

Steph's RR ... fairy wings
'Broadband' On James' surprise piece

I really cannot wait to see both of these completed ;-)  With luck I will get lots done over the weekend.  I really want to get James' one finished and to the framers ASAP!

Speaking of the framers I got one of Conors Karate Dogs back this morning.  He will be delighted with it when he comes home from school.

Orange Karate Belt
He came with me when we took the stitched dog and certificate into the framers because he wanted to choose the frame and mount!  We will get the others framed with the same frame and colour mount to match the belt colour :-)  They are going to look fabulous on the wall!!

I got my books for my Open University course yesterday and I cant wait to get stuck in.  I start a Maths course at the local college on Tuesday and Im looking forward to that too!

Laura was ready the local paper yesterday and she spotted an advertisement from the College saying they are starting a 'Coffee and Craft Club' which is a course that does printing, ceramics, textiles and glass workings!!  I have put my name down for it.  I cant wait for a start date :-)

OU books for course

Well I had better get on with finishing the tea off before school runs!  So must go and save it from the oven before we have burnt rocks to eat!!

Have a great weekend

Love me

Hello Bloggers!

Today is Cara's 3rd Birthday :-)

Happy Birthday my little cutie pie xxxx

She is having a wonderful day so far and we will have a little party for her later on when the others come home from school.

This morning I collected the family group photo and I cant wait to get it up on the wall :-)

Whilst Cara was bouncing on her birthday trampoline I sorted out addresses for the RR that myself and Aneeba from cuckistitchingcove.  This is my Lizzie*Kate RR that will be flying off to Aneeba in the next day or so :-)

At the moment I am stitching Conor 3rd Karate Dog for his up and coming Orange Belt Grading on Saturday .... Fingers crossed for my little Karate Kid.  Then I must get a move on with the teacher gifts as there is less than 3 weeks left until the summer holidays.  Really looking forward to the holidays :-)

We are in the process of getting the garden clean up and I have ordered some outdoor toys for them and a big double swing with see-saw thing on it :-)  They will love it!!

Margaret Sherry Cat

Good afternoon all,

Wow we have had a busy week and not much stitching time for me but I don't mind :-)

Last Sunday I helped out at the school with Holy Communion.  It was crazy busy but great fun.  I am glad I joined the parents Council at the school.

I have worked on one of the stitched presents for a teacher at the Primary school.  It is one of the Culinary Cats designed by Margaret Sherry :-)

I have also organised a little exchange between a few 'Old Stitching Friends' so I must get my piece done over the next week.  I love exchanges :-)

I use to do a lot of Round Robins too and they were great!

I receive Ryan Dragon kit and I ordered posh fabric from Polstitchers for it to be stitched on.  it took me an hour to choose what fabric and in the end I ordered a fabric called 'Fields of Green'.  Cannot wait to make a start on that.

Have a great day all and with luck I shall have another finish to show off very soon!

Take care

Love me xxx
